Spain evacuates a hundred residents of Sudan in a military operation

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, José Manuel Albares, confirmed this Sunday the takeoff from the capital of Sudan, Khartoum, of the two planes of the Air Force and Space with more than three dozen Spaniards and around 70 citizens of other nationalities.

Foreign Affairs explained that “another group of Spaniards voluntarily decided to stay in sudan or abandon it by other means, while others had already managed to leave the country before the implementation of this device”.

In addition, the Ministry has reported that “the Non-Combatant Personnel Rescue Operation (NEO) began on Friday with the positioning of a first A400 aircraft at the Djibouti airport, to which were added an Airbus A330 and two other A400 from the Air and Space Army”.

“In the last 48 hours, aircraft have operated between Djibouti and Spain to transport all the material and military personnel involved in the operation, which has been carried out from Khartoum airport. To do this, about 90 soldiers from the I Bandera Paratroopera have been implicated and the Army Special Operations Command, as well as 80 members of the 31st Wing, 45th Group, Air Deployment Support Squadron and the Aeroevacuation Medical Unit of the Air and Space Army, as well as a reconnaissance and liaison team of the Operations Command and personnel of the Joint Command of Special Operations”, the Ministry specified in a statement.

On the other hand, the Mexican Foreign Minister, Marcelo Ebrard, has reported that five Mexicans and two relatives have boarded “safe and sound” on one of the flights organized by Spain, thanking Albares for his support. Likewise, he has pointed out that another Mexican will be evacuated this Monday with the support of the UN.

The European Union announced this Sunday the beginning of the evacuation of its delegation in Sudan in the midst of operations to extract citizens and international diplomats in the face of fighting since last week between the Sudanese Army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

The High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Joseph Borrellhas declared his gratitude to the French Army, coordinator of the operation from Djibouti, as well as the authorities of this African country.
