Spain: first country in the EU to consider riders as employees

The Spanish government has signed an agreement with the unions that will see riders delivering meals to the doorstep for platforms come Deliveroo o UberEats legally recognized as salaried personnel. This was announced by the Minister of Labor, Yolanda Diaz. The riders “are now considered employees and will enjoy all the relevant protections”, said the Minister of Labor in a speech on TV, stressing that Spain was “the first country in the European Union to legislate on the matter”.
