In a statement to the press on the sidelines of the Socialist International congress, Mr. Sanchez welcomed the excellent relations uniting Morocco and Spain, “two brotherly and neighboring countries which share projects and a vision similar to the issues and challenges facing the world and our societies.
“These ties of cooperation, fraternity and friendship are vital to enable both societies to achieve their aspirations in an efficient and equitable manner,” he noted.
Addressing Morocco’s relations with the EU, the President of the Spanish Executive affirmed that his country remains a gateway for the Kingdom as a strategic partner in the European political project, specifying that Madrid “has always supported a strategic partnership between Rabat and Brussels, guided by a win-win spirit.
He also mentioned the importance of the roles that Socialists can play in the face of current challenges, emphasizing in this regard the importance for progressive political forces to work in favor of a societal vision that is inclusive and tolerant of diversity. .
“We see, unfortunately, that reactionary discourses are increasingly present within our societies and, therefore, it is very important to develop strategies transcending country borders and to promote the bonds of fraternity between governments and parties”, argued Mr. Sanchez who chairs the Congress of the Socialist International in his capacity as leader of the Spanish Socialist Workers’ Party (PSOE).
The congress, which is being held Saturday and Sunday in Rabat, under the theme “progressive solutions for a changing world”, brings together representatives of the social democratic, socialist and labor parties that are members of the International.
Participants will focus on topics as diverse as “radicalization, peace and promotion of personal security”, “the pact of the future as a tool for a new internationalism” and “the socio-economic impact of climate change and disasters natural”.
