Mouctar Diakhaby in action on the Cadiz field

In the Spanish league, the match between Cadiz e Valencia was temporarily suspended for racist insults against Mouctar Diakhaby, French player of the visiting team.

With the doors closed due to the Coronavirus, the unspeakable offenses did not come from the stands, but from a colleague on the field. The fact happened around the half hour of the game, when a quarrel between Diakhaby and Juan Cala, author of the 1-0 goal for Cadiz. According to reports from the French, Cala would have given him racist epithets.

At that point Diakhaby, also warned for the head to head with the opponent, he decided to leave the field, immediately followed by his teammates as a sign of solidarity. The Valencia players remained out for about a quarter of an hour, only to then decide to return as the referee warned them of the possible consequences of abandoning the match.

Diakhaby himself, according to the club, urged his teammates to return to the field to fight. However, the French defender remained out, replaced by Guillamon. Similarly, Cala was also alternated by his own coach, who evidently feared problems with temperament.

The match ended 2-1 for Cadiz, but Valencia’s Twitter comment makes a lot of sense: “What we lost today is not a match: today we lost the respect and spirit of football and sport”.
