The hydrogen backbone network in Spain will be presented on October 18 in Berlin to be sold as the great European ‘hub’ for this supply.could export up to 2.5 million tons.

This was announced this morning by the CEO of Enagás. Arturo Gonzalo, for whom the national gas network and the Barcelona-Marseille H2Med Mediterranean tube are “a great opportunity for Spain.” “After meeting internal demand, we can also be a supplier of those needs of the large industrial regions of Europe,” Gonzalo remarked at the conclusion of a conference to explain the axes of the =””> Spanish hydrogen backbone network and that opens a cycle of several days until the end of November to attract companies

The Spanish natural gas and transport network manager (TSO) manages this backbone gas transportation network, which in the future will be used for hydrogen, but requires the collaboration of distributors who deliver, through the secondary network, fuel to consumption points.

After the ‘call for interest’, a second phase of ‘open season’ will begin, also non-binding; to reach a third and final binding stage that is expected in 2025.

The presentation, in the words of the CEO, has aroused the interest of “eminently Spanish” actors, both in the production of hydrogen and its carriers in the country, whose ultimate objective is to meet the needs of green hydrogen consumers in Spain. .

Gonzalo has stressed that Enagás’ role in the hydrogen race is to act as a catalyst for this market, with principles of openness, transparency and confidentiality. To make this query more complete, ammonia, carbon dioxide (CO2), oxygen and water have been included.

“We want to have a joint vision of the infrastructures,” stated the CEO, who highlighted the importance of this joint “photo” of the network, since it could represent “important support” for the projects that come from Spain to the auctions that the European Hydrogen Bank is going to launch.

Likewise, he has assured that all participating agents will have “absolutely” the same treatment, especially Enagás Renovables, which will be treated “exactly the same as the others.”
