The First Vice President and Minister of Economic Affairs, Nadia Calviño, stated this Thursday in Luxembourg that Spain will present a “suitable” person for the presidency of the European Investment Bank (EIB) “in time and form”.

The minister, who is meeting this Thursday in the Luxembourg capital with her peers from the eurozone, the Eurogroup, stressed that Spain “has people with extraordinary talent” and has confirmed that it will propose a candidate to replace the current president, Werner Hoyer.

As Calviño explained, “the relief does not take place until the end of the year”while “an informal process is now underway”, at the same time that it has indicated that Spain will present a candidacy “in due time and form”.

Asked about the possibility of running for the position, she stressed that she is now “absolutely committed” to the project led by the Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, and that she is confident that she will continue to be the economic vice president for the next legislature.

To date, as confirmed by community sources, only Italy and Sweden have nominated their candidates.
