The retail giant SPAR has to recall a range of products, as the company announced in a press release. The reason for this is the detection of raisins that contained elevated levels of Ochratoxin A.
In this regard, the Swiss Federal Office for Food Safety and Veterinary Affairs states: „Ochratoxin A and Citrinin are highly toxic metabolic products of mold. They are very stable and are hardly destroyed by common food processing and preservation methods. The mycotoxin Ochratoxin A is very frequently found in grains and grain products, as well as in dried fruits. The substance has proven to be carcinogenic and nephrotoxic in animal experiments. Ochratoxin A is also quite stable in the human body and is only gradually excreted from the blood.“
