Speaker of the US House of Representatives: McCarthy lost all six rounds – NEWS 360 – WORLD

Washington: Kevin McCarthy, the speaker nominee of the majority Republican Party in the US House of Representatives, failed in the sixth round of the election. The reason for the uncertainty is that a faction within the Republican Party has come out against McCarthy.

In the first three rounds of voting on Tuesday, McCarthy fell short of an absolute majority of 218 votes. Then the situation was repeated in the next three rounds of voting held on Wednesday evening local time. With this, the congregation was again divided. It is the first time in 100 years that the House has failed to elect a Speaker after going through multiple rounds.

In November’s midterm elections, Democrats won 212 seats, while Republicans won 222 seats. But now the difference in the name of the speaker is becoming a headache for the Republicans. 20 members of the conservative wing of the party are standing with McCarthy.

The House of Representatives has been without a speaker since Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi stepped down on Tuesday. The Republican Party is trying to persuade the anti-McCarthy. Failing this, the party will have to announce another candidate acceptable to all.
