“Speaking everything to mother and father”: Yam Gronich, Shlomo’s daughter, in the first single after “The Next Star”

by time news

Yam Gronich, the daughter of Shlomo Gronich who broke through and left a big mark in the season of “The Next Star”, released a new first song that she wrote and composed – “Why not”, a poignant and uncompromising single, a kind of protest song that she defines as a song calling for love, inclusion and good will for a healthy change . In a conversation with Iris Cole on 103FM, the young Gronich talked about the music reality show, the connection with the agent Roberto and the involvement of her father in the creation.

When it’s completely authentic, it’s not in competition at all with the covers you do.
“Totally. I’ve been waiting for this moment when I can actually play some of my original material, I’ve been accumulating it for a long time, so it’s really an exciting moment for me to release this song.”

You are signed to Roberto, tell me a little about it.
“True. Actually, what happened was that I was in a period when I asked myself: ‘Okay, what’s next?’, the truth is that it was about two months before ‘The Next Star.’ I asked myself: ‘Well, how do I continue from here, I have a lot of materials, I want to develop, what do I do?’, and then my sister suggested an idea: ‘What about Roberto Ben Shoshan?’ ‘, I got his number, I went to meet him.”

How did you introduce yourself?
“‘My name is Yam Groenich, I’m interested in a meeting with you, maybe an autograph, let’s set up a meeting, is that possible?’, and then he said yes. We really met, and in that meeting I realized how serious the man is, and understands business, and understands matters, and that’s something I don’t all That’s how I understood him, to be honest. I would just do my art and make the music. I was terribly impressed, and then it turned out to me that he was too, and really now we’re making a path together, it’s really fun there. The decision to go to the next star was so shared when I was with him , and that’s it, and we’ve been on the road together ever since.”

How much artistic independence do you feel you have?
“I completely feel that I have artistic independence, by the way, a lot can be said to Roberto’s credit.”

I’m not talking specifically about him, this world you’re entering, it’s a business in the end.
“Let’s just say that I have a lot of songs that I still haven’t planned to release in the near future, because I thought they wouldn’t connect to it straight away, wouldn’t be able to maybe understand it, I know, sometimes I have a slightly different head in the landscape. I grew up on soul and R&B, which is less played Right now in Israel. But I totally think there is a place for this style, at least from the people I’ve gotten to know. I haven’t met a single person who doesn’t really connect with this style, and I think it has a place, and it has a place in Hebrew as well. I understand the need to communicate with the audience, And little by little, if they connect and like each other, then maybe I can really challenge the audience, challenge myself.”

Do you enjoy taking pictures, does it feel natural to you?
“Yes, absolutely. I’ve always loved the stage, from a very young age I used to build blocks for myself in stage kindergarten, a girl of attention. There’s nothing to say, I love it very much, modestly of course, but it’s something I like to do.”

You mentioned your sister, what is her role in your life?
“My sister really has a very central role in my life, for her. She advises me. She is musical, she was involved in music once, but not anymore. Her name is Shahar. She surfs, she is now studying sports therapy. She has a head on her shoulders, come on Let’s say, they are all artists like that, father and mother. And that’s it, now we live together in Ramat Gan, we decided to join forces.”

How much do you listen to mom and dad?
“I tell them everything, the truth is, we are very open.”

It’s in the discussion section as well, what do you think?
“It’s in the section of: ‘Take it, listen, if you can, give me money, and we’ll move on’. They always say what they think, but come on, they’re not that objective either.”

Tell me about him, about ‘why not’, about your song.
“So the song ‘Why not’ was really written something like three years ago, during the corona virus, during the quarantine. I was inside the ex’s house and I said to him: ‘Listen, I don’t have a muse, I don’t know what to do,’ he told me: ‘Well Listen, I’m leaving the room, take the room, try to write’. And then this song was really written very quickly, I have to say, after a long, long time I couldn’t write at all, because in the closing you don’t have too many things that entertain you on a daily basis or you see that inspire you, you’re suddenly stuck at home and there’s nothing. So really, all these questions that arose as a result of the lockdown, the lack of awareness about ‘what’s going on?’, ‘what’s going on with this world?’, came out of my mouth every second. I’m not the only one, I As for the relevance of this even for today, I think there is something relevant about it forever, because we always somewhere do not fully understand what is happening in the system or the hierarchy, or how things work, there are always questions and I think it is important to flood them, and I’m glad that’s what I got in this song.”
