Special Representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of South Korea noted the role of Russia in the inter-Korean dialogue

by time news

Russia plays an important role for the dialogue on the Korean Peninsula and a possible restart of negotiations between the United States and the DPRK, since it understands the position of the latter well, said No Gyu Dok, special representative of the South Korean Foreign Ministry for peace and security on the Korean Peninsula. He expressed his position before going to negotiations with Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Igor Morgulov.

“The peace process on the Korean Peninsula has now been stopped. We need to quickly restart the dialogue, and Russia’s role in this is important. Russia is a country that understands well the position of North Korea, “No Gyu Dok told reporters before flying to Moscow (quoted by Yenhap). In Russia, the special representative of the South Korean Foreign Ministry will meet with the Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia Igor Morgulov.

South Korea will ask Russia to continue its role during the talks to “improve inter-Korean relations and restart negotiations between the US and North Korea,” said No Gyu Dok. He noted that by now Russia is constructively coping with the task.

In August, Igor Morgulov and No Gyu Dok met in Seoul. US Special Representative for the DPRK, Song Kim, also flew to South Korea. Today in Washington, the national security advisers to the US and South Korean presidents discussed the US intention to hold talks with the DPRK.
