This was in the last years of Soviet rule, and in no way was it possible at that time to broadcast live radio to the Soviet Union.

The Rebbe took the opportunity to speak – exceptionally – in the Russian language, and told an astonishing story about his father’s devotion, sitting on the Dnepropetrovsk city rabbinate, in his struggle and concern for kosher matzah for Soviet Jews.
