The British Superbikes celebrated this past weekend the seventh round of the season in the always complicated and very fast Thruxton circuit, scene of the first triplet of the year for one of the members of the Yamaha – McAMS Yamaha, Jason O’HalloranTito Rabat’s partner, who did not leave even the crumbs in the three races held between Saturday and Sunday.
The Australian driver successfully won the first two events at Thruxton, both the Sprint Race and Race 1, and only in the last Sunday test, Race 2, did he have to manage an almost impossible overtaking on the last lap to overcome to Lee Jackson’s Kawasaki and seal a perfect weekend that allows O’Halloran to add 54 points with a stroke of the pen to be 50.5 points behind the BSB leader, Tommy Bridewell (1st 263p.).
The BeerMonster Ducati rider had a very bad weekend at Thruxton, adding five scarce points between the three racesjust a few more than his teammate and second overall finisher, Glenn Irwin (2nd 236.5p.), which confirmed the lack of competitiveness of the Panigale V4 R on this track with a ninth position as the best position of the weekend. The distance between the two is now 26.5 points.
Thruxton quote left us one of the most spectacular accidents of the year in British Superbikes; its two leads, Danny Kent and Jack Kennedy, miraculously unharmed from an impact between the two that occurred in the last lap of Race 3 on Sunday, just a few meters from the end of the test.
Kent was running in seventh position at the time, riding Kyle Ryde, when the rear shock on his Honda CBR 1000 RR-R broke and the entire rear end dipped, locking the wheel. Kennedy was in a different group from behind, lapping 12th, and by the time he realized what was happening, it was too late to avoid a direct hit with Kent’s Honda.
Whether by a miracle or a simple whim of fate, heThe two British pilots were able to get up on their own feet and there was no personal injury reported. Kent, aware that he had unintentionally caused the accident, wasted no time in approaching his rival to apologize and inquire about his physical condition.
