/ Iranian news reports stated on Saturday that sperm buying and selling clinics in Tehran advertise the sale of sperm to “models, athletes and celebrities,” which brings in tens of millions for the clinics.

In a report on the lucrative sperm exchange in Iran, the Iranian news website “Rozno” wrote, translated by Agency, that “there are people in Iran who earn millions by selling sperm or eggs,” noting that “the strange part of the story is that if you have colorful and wide eyes, you can earn astronomical income! One small clinic in northern Tehran claims that it conducts an intelligence test from the sperm donor, and if he gets a score of 120 or higher, the price of his sperm will be set at tens of millions.”

The report quoted the Mizan News Agency, affiliated with the judiciary, as saying, “Although the sale and purchase of sperm and eggs is illegal in Iran, a few years ago it announced that some clinics in Tehran, Mashhad and Isfahan provide sperm of VIPs, famous artists, athletes and scientists, to infertile couples who have signed contracts with them in this regard.”

The report added, “In Iran, tens of thousands of people are added to the community of infertile couples every year. Buying and selling sperm and eggs and renting a womb are options available to infertile couples and people who intend to make money in this way, and people who sell sperm earn several million tomans per month. Although currently, these businesses are not official or legal.

The report added that from the point of view of some Iranian religious authorities, there is no problem with a woman being inseminated with the semen of an unmarried man.

Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani was quoted as saying, “It is absolutely forbidden for a foreign man’s semen to enter a woman’s womb. However, if a woman’s egg is fertilized outside the womb with another man’s semen and placed in her womb, then there is no prohibition in that.”
