Sperm whale stranded in bay near Osaka has died

The authorities of the city of Osaka, Japan, confirmed the death of a whale found stranded in a bay on January 9 and are evaluating how to proceed in the future to avoid similar events. The best plan for removing the carcass will be identified in the coming days.

The distressed whale, a sperm whale (physeter macrocephalus), was spotted near the mouth of the Yodo River, about 400 meters south of the nearest jetty and less than two meters deep. Monitored closely, no movement or signs of breathing have been observed in the last few hours. The death was confirmed by a team of experts from the local aquarium Kaiyukan, who approached the specimen.
