A chihuahua mix dog named Spike holds the world record for living for 23 years and 7 days. Generally, a dog of the Chihuahua breed lives for 12-18 years. Its hybrids live a little extra days.

Gino, a 22-year-old Chihuahua mix, was named the world’s oldest dog in December 2022 in Los Angeles. The record has since been surpassed by a spike in Ohio State. In 2022, Spike became the fourth dog in the world record for the oldest dog.

Born in November 1999, Spike came into the hands of the current owner in 2010. Rita Kimball finds Spike beaten up in a grocery store parking lot. Then he adopted it and nurtured it until today.

Despite being a small looking dog, it had the courage and bravery of a large dog. That’s why we named it Spike. Eyesight has dimmed due to aging. But on summer weekends, Spike is more interested in going for long walks, says Rita Kimball.
