New Splash Guards Installed at the Casemate Museum in Kornwerderzand

Kornwerderzand – Visitors and volunteers of the Casemate Museum in Kornwerderzand can now breathe a sigh of relief as new splash guards have been installed to protect them from splashing water. Previously, the footpath leading to the museum was often filled with puddles of water, causing inconvenience and dirty stair railings for those trying to reach their destination.

The problem arose due to the cooling system used for the swing bridges in Kornwerderzand. The bridges were cooled with salt water from the Wadden Sea to prevent expansion and facilitate opening. While this was an effective solution for the operation of the bridges, it created a nuisance for museum visitors and volunteers. Cars passing through the water puddles over the bridge would cause splashing water, resulting in dirty hands and sometimes stained clothes for those on foot.

Fortunately, Solidd Steel Structures from Sumar came to the rescue. Rijkswaterstaat, the Dutch government agency responsible for the maintenance and development of roads and waterways, commissioned the installation of splash guards under the crash barriers. This week, the long-awaited solution finally came into effect.

Both sides of the bridge leading to the Casemate Museum are now equipped with splash screens, providing protection against water splashes caused by passing cars. Additionally, the footpath over the bridge has been leveled, ensuring a smooth and dry journey for visitors and volunteers.

The installation of splash guards and the levelling of the footpath have been met with great enthusiasm from the museum’s patrons. The improvements not only enhance the overall experience of visiting the Casemate Museum but also alleviate safety concerns for those using the steep stairs.

Thanks to the collaboration between Rijkswaterstaat and Solidd Steel Structures, visitors and volunteers can now reach the Casemate Museum without worrying about dirty hands or wet clothes. The new splash guards are a testament to the commitment to improving accessibility and comfort for all visitors, ensuring an enjoyable experience for years to come.]
