‘Spoofs didn’t work, Agent X was taken seriously by audiences’; B. Unnikrishnan said there was a mistake in Aarat

by time news

‘Aarat’ directed by B Unnikrishnan and scripted by Udayakrishna was one of the most criticized films in the recent past that arrived with hype. Mohanlal, who came as the hero along with the director and screenwriter, was also widely trolled. The director is saying that there was a mistake in the film. In an interview given to Film Kamanian South, B. Unnikrishnan gave a detailed assessment of ‘Aaratti’.

“Aarat was not a film in my zone. Udayan was coming up with the role of Neyyatinkara Gopan. He asked me if this character was not interesting and if I should work on it. I wanted to do a full-length spoof.

I thought it would be interesting if Mohanlal spoofed the films that made him a star. If you go and tell this to another actor, they probably won’t agree. I asked him if we could do this. The answer was why not,” said B Unnikrishnan.

“But what we did wrong was that we didn’t bring that spoof element throughout the film. In the second half, we went to a place where it wasn’t needed. That track itself didn’t work. Apart from Mohanlal, the idea of the film was discussed with many people, but they all expressed doubts about the whole spoof idea.

Many asked if people would accept Mohanlal if it was a complete spoof while making a big film. Then we got confused. Many of those spoofs don’t work. The audience saw it as just references.

The character asks if there are any such problems here, he is the one who conducts the festivals which have been stalled for ages. It should be remembered that it is Mohanlal who is asking. He even said the dialogue in Mammootty’s movie King. That spoof should have carried throughout the track.

But people felt it was childish to say that Neyyatinkara Gopan was an agent. They asked if he had come and spoofed. He was named X to make the agent thing a bit more interesting. But the audience took it very seriously. I felt that all the trolls that followed were vindicated,” said B Unnikrishnan.
