Sporting players will serve dinner in the Economic Kitchen

Sporting will collaborate with the Gijón Economic Kitchen. The social initiative, launched by the Foundation –Marea Rojiblanca– will begin in principle from next week. The players will serve dinners in the dining room for those most in need.

The director of the Foundation, Germán Argüelles, who is giving a complete turnaround to this area, a very important leg for Orlegi Sports, transferred the initiative to the footballers yesterday. It has been picked up by the squad in a very positive way. In fact, several of the players in the current squad have already collaborated on similar initiatives in their experiences at other clubs: Jordan, Otero, Varane… It is a voluntary activity, but the rojiblancos footballers have shown themselves to be receptive and involved in help the most disadvantaged. “We are very grateful to the club for the initiative. We are very excited that an entity like Sporting is collaborating with the house,” confesses María Sela Cueto Rodríguez, director of the Economic Kitchen. “That sport is involved brings the echo to more people”, the manager of the center repeats with gratitude. Sporting has been close to the Cocina Económica for some time (giving away tickets, in addition to other concessions). But this project will imply that the relationship is much closer. María Sela Cueto estimates that the institution feeds an average of 300 people a day – the number at dinner is significantly reduced. Although she reveals that as the month progresses, the dining room can feed about 400 people. The figures vary according to the month.

The Foundation’s proposal would take up to two first-team footballers along with two other employees of the rojiblanco club on each of the visits to the soup kitchen. In this way, an active contribution will be made to society, an objective that the Orlegi Group has always underlined under the motto “Earn by Serving”. In the same way, this social project will serve to strengthen ties between club workers and players.
