by time news

It is the Italian’s first Grand Slam title in his career. It came back in his very first final.

The Italian made big strides on the international stage last season. He started the year as number 15 in the world ranking, before entering 2024 he was in 4th place.

On Sunday, Sinner got off to a rough start and ended up 0-2 down after the first two sets. Then the Italian raised his own level a couple of notches and pulled off the triumph with three straight set wins.

Thus, Medvedev has lost five of the six Grand Slam finals he has played in his career. In addition to Sinner, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic have become too strong in two finals each.

Medvedev is the first in history to lose two Australian Open finals after leading 2-0. In this year’s edition of the tournament, Medvedev ended up playing a total of 31 sets. No one can point to the husband.

Medvedev broke Sinner at 1-1 in the opening set, before securing an early 3-1 lead with his own serve with a clean serve game.

– Daniil is very good at the start here. He plays aggressively, yet controlled. He looks incredibly dangerous so far, boasted Discovery commentator Svein-Espen Lindås Olsen during the first set.

The Russian continued his magnificent play in the second set, and the world number three broke his Italian opponent in two straight service games. Medvedev secured the 2-0 lead in the set with the numbers 6-3.

In the third set, however, Sinner hit back and reduced to 1-2 after breaking Medvedev at 5-4. The two teams followed each other very closely in the fourth set, and Sinner eventually forced the match into a fifth and decisive set.

Sinner was strongest there.
