Judge R. Mahadevan, who heard the case, had on January 19 ordered that only sportspersons should be administrators of sports associations and that politicians and businessmen should not be appointed.
The Tamil Nadu Olympic Association has filed an appeal in the Chennai High Court on behalf of its secretary against the decision of the special judge.
The case came up for hearing today in a session comprising Chief Justice Munishwar Nath Bandari and Justice Bharat Chakraborty. Questioning what was wrong with the order, the judges lamented the involvement of politicians in sports clubs and the fact that they were entering sports clubs to snatch facilities for athletes.
The judges said that the players who play for the team, the state and the nation are treated badly and the players who go to the matches are not given proper facilities.
The judges, who said they could not tell the court about the conduct of the coaches, questioned why political parties should appoint presidents to sports associations and why non-athletes should join these associations, ordering that a separate judge order be enforced and dismissing the appeal case.
