Sports, health and inclusion united in the Somos FANES Awards held at the COE headquarters

On Thursday, April 11, the First Edition of the Somos FANES Health and Wellbeing Awards was held, awards promoted by Las Mujeres Nos Movemos (LMNM) that has the support of the Spanish Olympic Committee (COE) and the sponsorship of the Community from Madrid. These awards were born with the objective of recognizing people who help build a more just and equal society in the field of well-being and health, by promoting diversity and inclusion, through the incorporation of small habits in the field of sports, nutrition, self-care and emotional management. Anonymous people and personalities from the world of sports, culture, research, technology and communication who are an inspiration and an example of improvement.

Ana Calderón, president of Las Mujeres Nos Movemos, has been very satisfied with the reception the awards have had. «We can be very proud of the result of this first edition of the Somos FANES Awards. The reception from the public and the media has been magnificent; the level of the candidates, finalists and winners is very high; Sponsors and collaborators have confirmed the need for this type of initiative to make visible the talent, often invisible, of those who work for the health and well-being of society. We are already looking forward to the next edition.

Nearly 300 people attended the awards, held at the headquarters of the Spanish Olympic Committee and presented by Esther Arroyo and Elisa Peralta, with a performance by Galician singer-songwriter Andrés Suárez, who performed some of his most applauded songs. Suárez commented: «It is an honor for me that a success like today has my voice and my songs. I am grateful for being able to contribute something to make things change, to help those who need it most, to be united, again. Thanks to those who fight for a better world, to those who do not allow tomorrow not to be this day repeated. “I sing for them.”

Alejandro Blanco, president of the COE and member of the jury, was in charge of closing the event. «For the Spanish Olympic Committee (he stressed) it is a pride to collaborate with any project that seeks to build a better world. And these awards are a great example of this, because they recognize the work of many people and institutions that, through their actions, help create a more just and equal society. People and institutions like Las Mujeres Nos Movemos that inspire and show the importance of moving and exercising, complementing it with good nutrition and emotional well-being that allows everything to go in the same direction. And if we achieve that, we have a lot to gain in our path to ensure that we all have the same opportunities.

A team of 20 #LMNM collaborators was in charge of presenting more than 120 nominations for these awards, and a jury made up of 15 people chose the winners. The jury, chaired by Coral Bistuer, athlete and gold medalist at the Barcelona ’92 Olympic Games, was made up of recognized personalities from the world of sport, culture and society (the public participated, through online voting, in the election of the Reference Award in Social Inclusion).

He Reference Award in Social Inclusionl, was delivered by Miguel Carballeda, president of the Paralympic Committee and Alejandro Blanco, president of the COE, for the Deporte Sin Barreras Foundation.

All the winners received a statuette created by the A la Par Foundation, which works for the rights of people with intellectual disabilities and their participation in society.

Las Mujeres Nos Moves is a non-profit association born in 2014 that promotes a social movement that wants to break ceilings, remove barriers and allow women to take a step forward and improve their quality of life and well-being.
