New Delhi: The Sports Ministry has suspended the Paralympic Committee of India. The Sports Ministry’s action is alleging failure to hold elections on time. The Sports Ministry said in a statement that the Paralympic Committee of India (PCI) had announced that the election would be held on March 28 and this was a violation of the law.
The election of the new committee should have been done before the expiry of the term of the existing executive committee. But the PCI has announced that the election will be held on March 28, 2024 in Bengaluru,” the ministry said.
The notification was issued by PCI on January 22, 2024. According to this, the election will be held approximately two months after the expiry of the term of the current Executive Committee. This is a violation of the rules and provisions of the sports code,” the sports ministry said in a statement. The Sports Ministry also alleged that the PCI has deliberately delayed the election without any reasonable reason.
