Spotify launches feature that prevents music recommendations outside your profile

by time news

Spotify has launched a new feature that allows you to avoid music recommendations that are not part of your music taste. Called “Delete from your musical taste profile”, in free translation, the feature prevents “songs and artists that do not fit” from invading your playlist, leaving you without understanding how and when the system considered that hit or singer.

An example: for many, the playlist used at bedtime is very different from the one you might prefer during the day, however, listening to both causes Spotify’s algorithm to mess up the recommendations, with one genre interfering with the other.

The same thing happens if you’re at a party and your cell phone is the DJ. You answer countless requests, with several different hits. Afterwards, we return to the interference of musical taste, the application starts making recommendations based on what has been played.

With the new feature you can keep that random playlist from your music taste profile “excluded”. Thus, in future recommendations, Spotify will not consider the sporadically played playlist.

According to Spotify, the feature will be available for both iOS and Android as well as desktop access. The novelty was announced at the end of Wednesday (8) and is being distributed gradually, so it is possible that some users already have access to the tool and others do not.

To prevent a played playlist from making recommendations:

  • Select the playlist;
  • Tap the three dots button;
  • Then tap on the “Delete from your liking profile” button.

New feature is different from “Private Session”

It is worth remembering that this is not the first time that Spotify has focused its efforts on giving the user control over what does and does not affect its algorithmic recommendations. The platform also has the “Private Session” option, which also does not allow the sound played during the session to affect the recommendations.

What’s the difference from one resource to the other then? In Private Session you need to activate the function manually every time you want to hear something anonymously. With the arrival of ‘Playlist Exclusion’, this becomes automatic, since you will define for the algorithm the type of music that it should not recommend.
