Spouse of woman who died after falling from seventh floor indicted for harassment

A 29-year-old woman was found dead on Sunday January 8, after falling from the seventh floor of her building located in Décines-Charpieu, east of Lyon. Tuesday evening, her partner, father of their two children, was indicted for “harassment of a spouse followed by his suicide”, confirmed to Monde the Lyon prosecutor’s office, after information from Agence France-Presse and the Progress.

The charge of “violence against a spouse which did not result in any total incapacity for work” was also retained. “The judge dismissed the most serious offense”, declared to Progress David Metaxas, the 32-year-old’s lawyerrelieved to have obtained the placement under judicial supervision of his client. “A decision which did not satisfy the Lyon prosecutor’s office, which had requested pre-trial detention”also notes the regional daily.

“He said she wanted to draw attention to herself.”

The young woman’s partner was in their apartment at the time of the fall, as were the young children, according to police. An argument had broken out shortly before between the two spouses. He was arrested and taken into custody.

The prosecution subsequently opened a judicial investigation for “intentional violence by a spouse leading to death without intention of causing it”, as well as for “violence and harassment by a spouse over a previous period”.

Me Metaxas specifies Progress that for his client it is a “a voluntary act that he finds difficult to put into words. He doesn’t understand her gesture. He said she wanted to draw attention to herself.”.
