The Slovak Prime Minister Igor Matovic announces his resignation, after the criticisms received for the management of the pandemic and his decision to buy the Russian Sputnik vaccine. Matovic throws in the towel to make room for the Minister of Finance Eduard Heger. “Please forgive me for all the mistakes I’ve made over the past year,” the resigning head of the government told reporters. After his appointment as premier, Eduard Heger, 44, minister of finance for a year, thanked Igor Matovic, saying that he has been fighting “evil and the mafia for ten years”. Becoming Minister of Finance on March 21, 2020, Heger, a 44-year-old former economist and businessman, belongs to the same conservative political party as Igor Matovic, Olano (Common People).
