Alec Secăreanu – Victor
He was born on December 4, 1984. The Romanian actor gained international recognition for his role as Gheorghe in the 2017 film God’s Own Country. Alexandru Secăreanu was born in Bucharest.
In 2007, he completed his acting studies at the Academy of Theater Arts and Cinematography in Caragiale. Claudiu Bleont – Nicolae Ceaușescu

HBO Max period drama Spy/Master, based on real people, is more John le Carré than Ian Fleming, its creators say. It follows Victor Godeanu, a high-ranking Romanian secret service officer, advisor to President Nicolae Ceaușescu – and a spy – who decides to defect in 1978.
“I watched James Bond as a kid, which is a very comic book version of espionage. It was something we really wanted to avoid. We wanted it to feel real,” says screenwriter Kirsten Peters. Adina Sădeanu adds: “John le Carré’s novels, for example The Perfect Spy, are so complex. These characters are running from their own humanity. I always wondered: How do they live? How do they wake up in the morning when they tell so many lies?’

Victor Godeanu, a close adviser to the Romanian dictator Nicolae Ceaușescu, became the central character of the series, which explores a week in his life. However, as is common in similar stories, Godeanu is hiding a secret – he is a secret KGB agent who must flee Romania and escape suspicion before his true identity and motives are revealed. On the run, he teams up with his ex-girlfriend, a secret Stasi agent, and a rookie CIA agent to help him defect to the US. However, to what extent does Victor Godeanu have a real basis? The character is inspired by a real man, although the name was changed for the series. Godeanu’s character is inspired by Ion Mihai Pacepa, one of the top Romanian intelligence officers. Pacepa was a general who served in the Romanian secret police during the communist regime.
In 1978, Pacepa decided to defect to the United States while serving at the Romanian Embassy in Washington, D.C. His defection was a major blow to the Ceaușescu regime and provided valuable insight into the workings of the Romanian intelligence apparatus. Pacepa became an important source of information about the Eastern Bloc for Western intelligence services.
Nicolae Ceaușescu was the General Secretary of the Romanian Communist Party and President of Romania from 1965 until his overthrow and execution in 1989. Under his leadership, Romania distanced itself from the influence of the Soviet Union and other Eastern Bloc countries. Internally, however, Ceaușescu promoted a regime with a high degree of centralization and repression. However, his economic policies, focused on industrialization and debt repayment, led to the suffering of the Romanian people.
Ceaușescu was overthrown in 1989 during mass protests. His fall marked the end of communist rule in Romania and opened the way to democracy and a market economy.
