“Squeezed” clothes? Beware of folliculitis, annoying (and embarrassing) infection

It may seem trivial, but folliculitis can sometimes be really annoying and embarrassing. Also for the parts of the body where it sometimes appears, such as the scalp, thighs, buttocks and even in the beard area. What does it consist of? “Folliculitis is an infection of the hair follicles and is almost always caused by bacteria that live on the skin surface” explains Stefano Veraldi, professor of the Dermatological Clinic of the University of Milan at the Polyclinic. «Under certain conditions, following a changes in the ecosystem of the skin, some of these microorganisms take over and begin to multiply, “invading” the hair follicle. The folliculitis can remain superficial, at the level of the point where the hair comes out, or go deeper and degenerate with the formation of a boil. It can affect different areas of the body: from the face to the legs, but it is more frequent in areas where there are terminal hair, thicker and more pigmented. There beard folliculitis it is known as sycosis, while that of the eyelashes is none other than the well-known sty. A particular type of folliculitis is that from Gram-negative bacteria, typically caused by local or systemic antibiotics used for acne therapy. In all cases it is not a transmissible infection, you are not infected by other people ”
