The production presentation for season 2 of the entertainment streaming service Netflix drama ‘Squid Game’ (written/directed by Hwang Dong-hyuk) was held at Dongdaemun Design Plaza in Seoul at 11 am on the 9th. In attendance were existing season 1 cast members Lee Jung-jae and Lee Byung-hun, as well as season 2 newcomers Im Si-wan, Kang Ha-neul, Wi Ha-jun, Park Gyu-young, Lee Jin-wook, Park Seong-hoon, Yang Dong-geun, Kang Ae-sim, Lee Seo-hwan, Jo yuri, and director hwang Dong-hyuk.
Director Hwang Dong-hyuk said, “The ending of Season 1 was a scene where Ki-hoon was about to board a plane to LA to see his daughter, but turned around and said, ‘We are not words, we are people.'” He added, “Season 2 will feature Ki-hoon’s journey after that. “Yes, Ki-hoon is trying to find out who created this game and stop this game. The confrontation between the front men who try to stop and change Ki-hoon again is the core story and conflict structure of Season 2.”
Director Hwang said,”The ‘pros and cons’ vote on whether to continue or stop a game that was briefly introduced in Season 1 is played out in each game and is considered an crucial issue in Season 2.” He added, “There’s a lot of talk about voting these days, and it’s not just in our country. “The presidential election in the U.S. ended recently, so it would be fascinating to think about it in connection with voting, and it would be fun to watch a new game,” he said, pointing out the elements of watching.
He said, “If I were to talk about the message of the drama limited to season 2, I think that the world is becoming increasingly divided, and the conflicts that draw lines and hostility are deepening. There are conflicts within society, countries, and wars. ‘Squid Game 2’ He said, “You will be able to feel the similarity to the real world by looking at the divisions and unfriendly humans. I hope there will be an opportunity to look back on such a society through ‘Squid Game 2.’”
‘Squid Game 2’, the sequel to ‘Squid Game’, which was released in 2021 and recorded as Netflix’s highest-grossing hit, is the story of Ki-hoon (played by Lee Jung-jae), who vows revenge and returns to participate in the game, and the frontman (played by Byung-hun Lee) who greets him.
