The Government of Sri Lanka has imposed a ban on the export of beef and mutton due to the death of cattle due to the unusual cold weather prevailing in the northern and eastern provinces of Sri Lanka.

It is reported that Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe has sent the notification to the health authorities.

The Department of Animal Welfare said: 358 cows and 191 goats have died in the Northern Province. 444 cows, 34 buffaloes and 65 goats died in Eastern Province.

The Sri Lankan Veterinary Department has sent samples of the dead cattle for laboratory testing, despite claims that the cattle were dying due to bad weather. When the results of the study come out, it will be known what is the reason for the high death rate of pedestrians.
