Colombo: 37 new members of the Sri Lankan Cabinet took charge as Ministers of State yesterday.

Due to severe economic crisis in our neighboring country Sri Lanka, people’s protest broke out. President Gotabaya Rajapakse and Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakse resigned. Ranil Wickramasinghe took charge as the new president. He informed that an all-party cabinet will be formed to deal with the economic crisis. He also presented the interim budget last month.

In this case, the Sri Lankan cabinet has been expanded. 37 new ministers took charge yesterday. Sasindra Rajapaksa, a relative of former President Gotabaya, took charge as the Joint Minister of Water Irrigation Department. In the expansion of the cabinet, more opportunities have been given to the members of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna Party of the Rajapakse brothers. In addition, some members of the Sri Lanka Independence Party of former President Maithripala Sirisena have also been given ministerial positions.
