New Delhi: Sri Lanka cricket team is going through a difficult phase. The team was eliminated in the first round of the T20 World Cup. Before that, Sri Lanka was also ranked 9th in the ODI World Cup. Due to this, it did not even get a place in the Champions Trophy to be held in Pakistan in February-March next year. After the team was eliminated in the T20 World Cup, head coach Chris Silverwood decided to leave his post.

Sanath Jayasuriya given responsibility of head coach

The responsibility of the head coach of the Sri Lankan cricket team has now been given to Sanath Jayasuriya, a member of the 1996 World Cup winning team. However, he has been made the head coach on an interim basis. The Sri Lanka Cricket Board announced that Jayasuriya will remain in this position till September. Sri Lanka has to tour England in August-September. The team will play a three-match Test series there. It is to be held between 21 August and 10 September.

ODI and T20 series against India

After Zimbabwe, the Indian team will tour Sri Lanka. There, three ODIs and three T20 matches will be played between the two teams. T20 matches will be played on 27, 28 and 30 June. After this, the ODI series will start from 2 August. The second ODI will be played on 4 August and the third on 7 August. In this too, the Sri Lankan team will play under the coaching of Sanath Jayasuriya.

International Career of Sanath Jayasuriya

Sanath Jayasuriya is one of the greatest batsmen in Sri Lankan cricket history. He has played 110 Tests and 445 ODIs. 55-year-old Jayasuriya played his last international match in 2011. He also played 31 T20 International matches for Sri Lanka. He has more than 20 thousand runs in international cricket. He has also scored 42 centuries. However, he does not have experience of coaching in international cricket.
