July 17 marked the 100th day of Sri Lanka’s protests, which saw several protests including the looting and occupation of the official residences of former Sri Lankan presidents Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Wickremesinghe. Sri Lanka’s current predicament is attributed to former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa’s mismanagement.

People are suffering due to the economic crisis in the country. The number of Tamils ​​coming as refugees to neighboring Tamil Nadu has also increased.

Sri Lanka’s population of 22 million have been facing shortages of food, medicine and fuel since late last year. Protests against the president were fueled by social media posts like Facebook, Twitter and TikTok.

In Sri Lanka, apart from the Sinhalese, the minority groups Tamils ​​and Muslims also staged protests. The protests and demonstrations that started as a two-day protest on April 9 have reached their hundredth day.

Following the resignation of President Rajapaksa, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has been appointed as interim President, and a state of emergency has been declared in Sri Lanka. Ranil Wickramasinghe is the leading candidate in next week’s parliamentary polls.
