Protesters celebrate the Sinhala New Year outside the Presidential Palace as protests continue to demand the resignation of the Sri Lankan president.
As Sri Lanka’s economy deteriorates, protests continue across the country demanding the resignation of President Gotabhaya Rajapakse. Protesters set up tents outside the Chancellery in Colombo for six days. There they set up a traditional Sinhala New Year stove and celebrated Pal Pongal. Buddhist monks have also been supporting the protesters.
Meanwhile, S&P, an international credit rating agency, has said that the Sri Lankan government is almost certain to go bankrupt without being able to repay the loan. Another rating agency, Fitch, said Sri Lanka was already moving towards bankruptcy.
