In response to the news that Gotabaya has taken refuge in Singapore, “Gotabaya Rajapakse has come to Singapore on a personal trip. And Singapore has not given him asylum,” explained the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Singapore.
Following that, it has been reported that Gotabaya Rajapakse has resigned from his presidency and has sent his resignation letter to the Speaker of Sri Lanka via e-mail. This was confirmed by the spokesperson of the Speaker of the Sri Lankan Parliament. It is also said that the next step is to take legal steps to consider the resignation letter before officially accepting it.
