Sri Lankan government bans Chinese spy ship; Abrupt end due to India’s opposition

by time news

Colombo: The Sri Lankan government has refused to allow a Chinese spy ship to enter Ambandotta port due to India’s strong opposition. China, which has given loans to Sri Lanka and leased the port of Ampantota here for 99 years, is giving a hand to India from here. In this case, the Sri Lankan government said that the Chinese military’s spy ship ‘Yuan Wang-5’, which monitors satellites, will arrive at Ampantota on the 11th and will camp until the 17th.

Sri Lanka’s decision was strongly opposed by the Union Government as it posed a huge threat to India’s security. In this case, the Sri Lankan government, bowing to India’s opposition, has asked China not to send a spy ship to Ampantota for now. It has written a letter to China on the 5th. The Chinese ambassador to Sri Lanka has objected to this and warned that ‘refusing permission to the ship will have an impact on bilateral relations’.
