Sri Lankan refugees stranded in the middle of the sea – important announcement from Vietnam!

It is reported that 20 of the Sri Lankan refugees who have been accommodated in Vietnam have expressed their desire to return to their homeland.

It has been reported that the Sri Lankan Embassy in Hanoi, Vietnam is making arrangements for the repatriation of those who have expressed their desire to return to the country, in collaboration with two organizations, UNHCR and IOM.

The Ministry of External Affairs also said that the International Organization for Refugees is providing the necessary financial facilities to send them back to the country.

Remedies to Third Parties

In this case, the Ministry of External Affairs said that the 130 people who did not agree to return to Sri Lanka have requested a solution from the third party countries through the International Organization for Refugees.

More than 300 Sri Lankans stranded at sea off the Spratly Islands when their boat broke down while traveling illegally were found and later rescued by the Japanese navy.

On November 5, 258 nautical miles off Vung Tau on the southern coast, its engine room sank in rough seas.

A sinking ship

The sinking ship then broadcast distress signals to other nearby ships. After that, a Japanese ship rushed to the area and rescued the refugees from the floating boat.

It is also noteworthy that 264 men, 19 women and 20 children were among those rescued.
