Sri Lanka’s Speaker Mahinda Yapa has warned that the people of Sri Lanka will starve if the financial crisis continues.
Food and fuel shortages are acute. And inflation and power shortages. This will starve the people. The country is going through the worst crisis since independence in 1948. Abivardhana said that more challenges are yet to be faced and this is just the beginning.
The fisheries sector is also facing a major setback. Fishermen are unable to go to sea due to fuel shortage. Fishing is the main source of livelihood for the northern Tamils in the country. Fuel shortages in the country, which is facing a severe crisis, have also hit the fisheries sector hard.
President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa has ordered the lifting of the state of emergency in Sri Lanka, which is suffering from a financial crisis. The decision comes as protests by the Sri Lankan people intensify. All Sri Lankan cabinet ministers, except Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa, have resigned amid mounting public outcry against the government.

At the same time, President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa has decided not to resign despite the popular uprising in the country and the loss of a majority in the government. His office said he would not resign anyway and that the government would face the problem.
