Chaos Ensues as Srilankan Airlines Cancels Flight to Sri Lanka
More than 100 passengers found themselves in a heated argument with airport officials after a Srilankan Airlines flight to Sri Lanka was suddenly cancelled. The flight, which was scheduled to depart from Chennai International Airport to the Sri Lankan capital Colombo at 9:40 am, left travelers shocked and frustrated.
The cancellation was attributed to bad weather in Sri Lanka, preventing the arrival of the passenger flight from Sri Lanka to Chennai. This left 186 passengers stranded and unable to continue their journey, with over 40 of them being transit passengers traveling to countries such as Singapore, Malaysia, and Australia via Sri Lanka.
In an effort to appease the transit passengers, the management of Srilankan Airlines arranged for the transfer of tickets to other airlines, including Air India. However, for the 140 passengers heading directly to Sri Lanka, the flight cancellation led to a protest as they questioned why Srilankan Airlines was the only one affected by the bad weather.
The situation escalated as the stranded passengers besieged the Srilankan Airlines employees and engaged in a heated argument, prompting airport officials and security personnel to intervene. Despite the chaos, the airport authorities assured the passengers that arrangements would be made to transfer their tickets to another flight and send them to Sri Lanka.
At present, approximately 140 passengers, including women and children, are left waiting at Chennai International Airport for alternative arrangements to travel to Sri Lanka. The airport authorities are working on arranging flights with other airlines to ensure the affected passengers can continue their journey as soon as possible.
