St. Pauli autumn champions of the 2nd league! Burgstaller slams ex-club Schalke away – Bundesliga

by time news

What a crazy fireworks display at Hamburg’s Millerntor!

FC St. Pauli celebrates its eighth home win in its eighth home game, beating Bundesliga relegated Schalke 04 2-1 in front of 19,950 spectators. The fans will be celebrating the early autumn championship on matchday 16. Your club is clearly on course for the Bundesliga. Schalke is far from that after the bankruptcy.

Burgstaller slams Schalke away!

It is strange even before the kick-off. The head coaches of both teams do not sit on the bench, but do “home work” at home.

At St. Pauli, Timo Schultz (44) has been in corona quarantine for a week and is represented by his young assistants Fabian Hürzeler (28) and Loic Fave (28). At Schalke, Dimitrios Grammozis (43) had to go into quarantine on Friday. For him, assistant coach Sven Piepenbrock (39) and Mike Büskens (53) sit on the sidelines.

Wait? Not in this top game.

St. Pauli is going full steam ahead. And one is particularly hot: Ex-Schalke Guido Burgstaller (32) makes hell hot for his ex-club. His first goal doesn’t count yet: Igor Matanovic is refueling and could have scored the goal himself. But Burgstaller “steals” the ball from him, hits, but is offside (6th).

Then the Austrian does it better: Long ball from Matanovic, “Burgi” nibbles on Schalke’s Thomas Ouwejan, hammers in at the bottom left – 1-0 (20th).

Almost in return, Rodrigo Zalazar equalized, but he warped against his ex-club (22nd).

On the other hand, Burgstaller simply cannot be stopped. After a fine combination of corners, Leart Paqarada crosses the striker, who strokes the thing with his head in the far corner – 2-0 (39th). His 14th goal of the season. The only thing that Burgstaller holds back is the goal celebration, which is rather subtle against his ex-club. In return, the fans celebrate the striker as “football god”.

After the break, the Schalke sign of life. With the first attack almost the connection. But St. Pauli keeper Nikola Vasilj saves against Mehmet Aydin (46th) in dire need. On the other side, S04 keeper Martin Fraisl prevents the third goal. The sender from 15 meters? Burgstaller again, of course (56th).

But Schalke strikes back again. After a left flank from Ouwejan, Zalazar comes completely free to the header and heads in to make it 2-1 (75th). Afterwards, Zalazar apologizes to the audience of his ex-club and only celebrates the goal with his colleagues. Bad luck for Schalke: A goal from Ouwejan doesn’t count. Because passer Pieringer was previously offside (84th).

St. Pauli saves the narrow lead over time. And the fans celebrate the next step in the direction of the Bundesliga in the dirty weather in Hamburg.
