Stabbing attack in the Old City of Jerusalem: A terrorist stabbed two border guards and was killed

Initial report: A stabbing attack took place this evening (Wednesday) on Hagai Street in the Old City of Jerusalem, during which the terrorist, a 16-year-old boy from the east of the city, stabbed a fighter and a border fighter who operated on the spot, slightly and moderately wounded them and then killed by security forces. The 19-year-old was evacuated to the hospital in mild and moderate condition respectively.

During searches conducted in the area after the attack, Jerusalem District Police and Border Police arrested a number of residents of the east of the city for questioning on suspicion that they were connected to the terrorist, and the police are checking to see if they have anything to do with the attack.

After the attack, Jerusalem District Commander Doron Turgeman conducted a situation assessment at the scene and assigned the investigation of the attack to the central unit in the Jerusalem district. At the end of the assessment of the situation, he said: “In the stabbing attack, the Jerusalem Border Police demonstrators showed determination and striving for contact with a bloodthirsty terrorist who tried to take their lives in one moment. “Another citizen who was in the area and helped in the joint effort to neutralize the terrorist is also to be commended.”

The district commander added: “This attack is another reminder of the variety of threats bravely faced by Jerusalem district police and Border Police fighters in the Old City and in general. We will continue to act resolutely against terrorist threats and against anyone who attempts to harm police or civilians.”

The attack took place near the Ateret Kohanim yeshiva, in the hospice area. The terrorist emerged from behind the fighter and the female fighter who were at the scene in an operational activity, stabbed and wounded them lightly and moderately. The fighters and a civilian security guard who was at the scene shot at the terrorist and killed him. Large police forces have been called to the scene and are working in the area.

According to Palestinian reports, the gates of the Temple Mount were closed following the attack.

MDA teams called to the scene of the attack provided medical treatment to the wounded and evacuated the fighter to Hadassah Mount Scopus Hospital in moderate and stable condition, fully aware of the penetrating injuries, and the fighter to Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital in a light condition with a penetrating injury.

Joshua Sheetrit, a paramedic stationed on an MDA ATV, a senior MDA paramedic, Ohavia Sharabi, and MDA paramedic Moshe Tubolsky said:

“We provided them with a life-saving medical treatment in the field, loaded them onto MDA’s special ATV designed to move through the alleys of the Old City and evacuated them while continuing treatment to team up with MDA intensive care vehicles waiting for us near the Lions Gate.”

A senior MDA paramedic, Ariel Atias, added: “We evacuated the slightly injured man, about 20 years old, to Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital, while he is fully conscious and communicating with us.”
