Sean Parker is rebuilding Stability AI to focus on generative audio tools for music professionals, backed by a recent funding round involving major record labels. The company has released three new audio models and an AI music-editing software package as part of the strategic pivot.
Sean Parker and Prem Akkaraju Take Over Stability AI
Two years ago, Napster co-founder Sean Parker joined an $80 million rescue of Stability AI, stepping in after overspending and internal turmoil nearly collapsed the image-generator startup and led to the ouster of founder Emad Mostaque. Parker has since teamed up with longtime friend Prem Akkaraju, who became the company’s CEO.
Reflecting on his earlier career in digital music, Parker acknowledges that his previous approach required a course correction. move fast and ask for forgiveness later
did not yield positive results last time around, he concedes, adding that he is strictly playing by the rules during this rebuilding phase.
Major Labels Fund Stability AI to License Catalogs
To fund its new direction, Stability AI secured $76 million in funding at the end of August. The investment round drew participation from Sony, Warner, and Universal.

As part of the financing agreement, these companies licensed their catalogs for training the company’s artificial intelligence models.
Stability AI Releases Audio Models and Editing Software
Following the capital injection, Stability AI rolled out three new audio models alongside a dedicated AI music-editing program. The current software lets users generate entire instrumental tracks or short musical snippets straight from text prompts.
According to Parker, an upcoming update will let users guide generation by humming a melody or tapping out a rhythm through beatboxing, expanding how creators interact with the audio generation engine.
