Stade Français owner Hans-Peter Wild confirms contact with French XV coaches

by time news

Hans-Peter Wild is out of the woods. And as often, everyone took for his rank. The German owner of Stade Français Paris gave an interview to the team this Friday, in which he talks about the period his club is going through and in particular the turbulence that agitates his staff. The businessman who owns the Capri-Sun brand confirmed having had contact with the Blues coaching duo, Laurent Labit and Karim Ghezal.

“When we learned that Laurent Labit and Karim Ghezal could be available after the 2023 World Cup, I thought it would be interesting to talk to them. I met them once then Laurent alone twice more. They are very competent people. Gonzalo knows. But no contract has been signed with Labit and Ghezal”, explains Hans-Peter Wild. Enough to put Gonzalo Quesada, the current manager of Stade Français in difficulty despite everything…

Quesada wanted to leave

Which, reveals Wild, almost left the club last summer. “The day before the last match of the season against Brive, I had a discussion with Gonzalo Quesada. He told me that the best solution for the club would be for him to leave with immediate effect. I disagreed. I asked him to stay,” says Wild.

The businessman also does not deny the tensions between Quesada and Thomas Lombard, the club’s general manager. “There was friction. I won’t hide it. We talked about it internally. They must stop. This is already the case. The relationship has improved. Thomas no longer invests in sports,” says Hans-Peter Wild.

Labit and Ghezal expected for December 2023

Supported by its president despite his desire to leave and relations with Lombard, Quesada is nonetheless under pressure. “Now the deal is simple: if we win, Quesada will be right. If we lose, he will be wrong”, summarizes Wild, who does not believe in a descent into ProD2. “If that’s the case, I’m off,” he slips in a joking tone.

And the Argentinian manager’s future is, in any case, linked to the decision of Laurent Labit and Karim Ghezal to come. “If they come, I say ‘if’, they won’t arrive until December 2023. Everything is very clear with Gonzalo. He is our sporting director for this season and our goal is to play in the final phase. I trust him. If Labit and Ghezal join us, Gonzalo Quesada will leave the club no matter what, even in the event of qualification, balances Hans-Peter Wild. But this hypothesis is still too premature. »
