As the home district of General Secretary Duraimurugan Annan, Vellore holds special importance for the party. Stalin expressed his pride in serving as the DMK president while Duraimurugan holds the position of general secretary, emphasizing their shared roots in the artist community.
“Duraimurugan Annan was the one who guided me when both the artist and the professor left us. His experience and advice have been invaluable to me,” Stalin acknowledged. He praised Duraimurugan’s expertise in effectively leading discussions by recalling old programs and highlighted the district’s secretary, Nandakumar, for organizing the celebration with great efficiency.
Stalin also acknowledged the pivotal role of Karthikeyan, the city secretary, in ensuring the success of DMK events. His powerful voice, as symbolized by his loudspeaker, has amplified the DMK’s message throughout the region.
Reflecting on the history of the Tribhar Festival, Stalin mentioned that the artist’s announcement in 1985 to combine Periyar’s and Anna’s birthdays with the DMK’s inauguration day marked the beginning of the annual celebration. This year’s festival holds additional significance as it commemorates the artist’s centenary and the coral jubilee of the party’s movement, making it the Five Great Festival. Stalin pledged to celebrate the centenary in a remarkable manner.
Addressing broader political issues, Stalin accused the BJP of undermining state rights, signaling a tense relationship between the DMK and the ruling party at the national level. Concerns were also raised about the falling water availability in the Mettur dam, raising uncertainties about the cultivation of Samba and Thaladi crops.
