Peruvian singer Juan Diego Flórez is about to have a pop career. Today he may be the most weightless tenor today. Now you have left your mark. And retelling the story of a Simon & Garfunkel classic.
This is the story of a Peruvian pop singer who, at the age of 15, was asked if she wanted to participate in a few zarzuela events with her music teacher – the Spanish version of operetta. Also because he plays the guitar well. He wanted to imitate the teacher in his playing style and enjoyed it.
More hours followed, it could be good for his pop career, the young man thought – and fell more and more in love with this song. But the teacher wanted money for the lessons the student didn’t have, so he went to the boarding school in Lima, which was free. And in the end, the young singer became the international opera star Juan Diego Flórez.
It is considered the best of all tenors of graceAs the best of the lyrical meltdowns with a pitch as bright as a bird, still brilliantly written, the voice is still radiantly beautiful and light. He has just been in Pesaro at the Rossini Opera Festival in his most recent role as the killer Orestes in “Ermione”.
“But there are no more games currently planned,” he said, who also serves as artistic director there. “Perhaps Mozart’s Titus, which has been suggested to me many times; For the first time, Offenbach’s Hoffmann is waiting in London, which is one of the longest tenor roles ever.” The 51-year-old, who lives in Vienna, also wants to fulfill his potential in other ways.
For example, increasing in concerts, which the queen of bel canto, Marilyn Horne, encouraged to go to when she was young: “I was in a senior class there in 1995. She always urged people to have concerts enough music and solitary evenings so that in addition to the opera, they will have more time for their family and can also travel to countries like China or Australia without having to stay there for too long. “
And it is true. But Florez is planning ahead. He has had a base in Lima since 2011, which also includes the youth orchestra, Sinfonía por el Perú. He went on a festival tour with him in Salzburg, Lucerne and Gstaad. This autumn they can be heard again in Europe. This time the event is the first upcoming release of the Flórez label, where the singer wants to focus more on the projects that suit him. The logo shows a pennant and, with a lot of imagination, a guitar made by Juan Diego Flórez himself.
And the repertoire? Zarzuelas of course! He had never recorded them before, he sang them as prompts. And with many feelings, orchestral and sound, the Iberian operetta style is very full-bodied under Guillermo García Calvo It trills and warbles, it also schmalzes, sometimes. Flórez says: “We limit ourselves to the traditional magazine, because that’s what people know. Although there are still Peruvian jobs. The most famous is ‘El condor pasa’ and it was written by Daniel Alomía Robles in 1913. Then Simon & Garfunkel heard it on the street, thought it was an original Inca melody and made it an international hit. ”
The next Flórez-Florez CD has already been confirmed. A quote with his piano partner Vincenzo Solera: “We’ve been working together since 1999, and we haven’t recorded a single record together. That could be the best vacation. “
