Starbucks bans use of stores without orders in North America from the 27th
While Starbucks in the U.S. plans to ban sitting in the store or using the restroom without purchasing beverages or food products, attention is focused on what policy Starbucks Korea will implement.
According to foreign media such as the Associated Press on the 14th, Starbucks plans to implement a new policy in approximately 11,000 stores in North America starting on the 27th, prohibiting customers from entering the store without ordering.
The new code of conduct guidelines that Starbucks will apply to its North American stores reportedly include prohibitions on discrimination, harassment, consumption of imported alcohol, smoking, drug use, and begging.
“The new rules are designed to prioritize paying customers,” Starbucks spokeswoman Jassy Anderson said. “Most other retail stores already have similar rules in place.”
“We want everyone to feel welcome and comfortable in our stores,” Anderson said. “By setting clear expectations for behavior and use of space, we can create a better experience for everyone.”
The code of conduct requires violators to leave and call law enforcement if necessary, Starbucks said.
As a result, consumers are wondering if they will no longer be able to use stores without ordering in Korea.
However, this guideline only applies to stores in North America, and it is not currently confirmed whether it will be extended to other regions.
SCK Company, which operates Starbucks in Korea, said it had not received any information regarding the new guidelines from its global headquarters.
A Starbucks official said, “Currently, you can use the store and restrooms at Starbucks Korea stores without restrictions.”
