The Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka has granted Starlink Lanka (Private) Limited a licence to provide satellite broadband services in the island nation.
As reported by Day.Az with reference to the Daily Mirror newspaper, the license received by the local branch of Elon Musk’s SpaceX company to launch the Starlink satellite communications system came into effect on August 12.
Earlier, the implementation of Starlink was welcomed by Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickramasinghe. According to him, “the launch of satellite internet services will revolutionize connectivity in Sri Lanka, opening up new horizons, especially for the youth, who will be able to access global educational resources, participate in innovative projects and thrive in this new digital era.”
It is worth noting that recently the company SpaceX, headed by Elon Musk, announced a significant update to its Starlink system, aimed at reducing the risk of interference to radio telescopes.
