The Moroccan authorities have revealed that emergency aid to victims of the earthquake of magnitude 6.8 on the open Richter scale registered on September 8, which had its epicenter in the province of Al Haouz and which left nearly 3,000 dead , will begin to be delivered from Friday.

The announcement came during the fifth meeting of the interministerial commission in charge of the earthquake emergency program that this aid, of 2,500 dirhams (about 230 euros) per month for a year to families whose homes have totally and partially collapsed They will deliver between October 6 and 16.

“Families affected by the earthquake, who did not receive financial aid during the aforementioned period, will have the opportunity to present complaints on this issue to the corresponding provincial commissions in order to examine them and rule on them,” explained the Moroccan Government.

Likewise, he has stated that credit lines worth 2.5 billion dirhams (230 million euros) will be opened for the immediate launch of reconstruction projects in the education, health, equipment, habitat, culture, tourism and agriculture sectors, among others. others.

The commission has also noted that it has also been agreed to “immediately and convergently implement urgent reconstruction projects by launching architectural and technical studies that refer in particular to the reconstruction and improvement of more than a thousand schools and the construction of 42 local health centers”.

Finally, during the meeting, led by the Prime Minister of Morocco, Aziz Ajanuch, it was agreed to launch “actions to shore up historical sites” and work to “reinforce and restore” mosques and mausoleums, among other buildings, according to the statement published by the Executive through its website.

Mohamed VI revealed in September that the country will allocate 120 billion dirhams (around 11 billion euros) to reconstruction tasks in the provinces affected by the earthquake. The funds will be used over a period of five years in the six affected provinces – Al Haouz, Azilal, Chichaua, Marrakech, Taroudant and Ouarzazate – with a total of 4.2 million beneficiaries.

In the face of the tragedy, the international community has offered humanitarian aid, although Rabat has only accepted aid from a few countries, including Spain. Mohamed VI, for his part, was absent during the first days after the event. On September 12 he appeared in public for the first time during a visit to a Marrakech hospital where hundreds of wounded people are recovering.
