How the method works

The process developed by Ebb Carbon works by installing modules close to ocean water; Sea water flows through the Ebb system, which uses an electrochemical process to remove acidity; After passing through the system, the water is returned to the ocean in ideal conditions to absorb again CO₂ and store it naturally as bicarbonate.

This carbon removal service from Ebb Carbon has attracted the attention of companies such as Stripe, which seek offsets to achieve net-zero goals. The demand for sustainable solutions has made Ebb Carbon increasingly attractive to investors, such as Prelude Ventures, who see a billionaire market for voluntary carbon offsets.

Despite the advances, the cost of the technology developed by Ebb Carbon is still high, surpassing the mark of US$ 100 (R$ 493.83) per ton of CO₂ removed. However, this cost is expected to decrease significantly as the technology scales to more locations and leverages existing infrastructure such as desalination and coastal power plants.

So far, Ebb Carbon has managed to raise US$ 27.7 million (R$ 136.7 million) in investments, with the support of companies such as Evok Innovations, Congruent Ventures and Propeller.

Combating global warming requires actions on several fronts, and removing carbon from the atmosphere by restoring the chemistry of the oceans is a promising business area.
