Coimbatore: Coimbatore Alvernia School team won the trophy in the sub-junior category of the state-level basketball tournament for school girls. On behalf of Alvernia School, the ninth annual ‘Alvernia Spinning Cup’ state-level tournament for school girls was held at the school campus basketball court. In two categories, sub-junior and junior. Competitions were held. In sub junior category, 13 teams and six teams are participating in junior category. In the sub junior category final, Coimbatore Alvernia School team and Tuticorin Holycross team competed. Alvernia schoolgirls who played well beat Holycross team by 10 points with a score of 48 – 38 at the end of the game and won the trophy. Lakshmi Priya and Smitha of Alvernia who played well throughout the series and helped win the trophy were selected as the best players. Winners were awarded trophies, medals and certificates.
