The heads of the permanent committees of the Supreme Council of State called for a general session of the Council, chaired by the oldest member and the youngest as rapporteur, to complete the elections of the remaining members of the Presidency Office next Wednesday at the Council’s headquarters in Tripoli.

This came in a joint statement issued after the meeting of the committee heads, today, Thursday, to study the conditions reached by the Supreme Council of State.

The statement pointed out the seriousness of the division that resulted in disagreement over the outcome of the council presidency elections held on August 6, and the impasse in reaching a solution to this crisis.

The heads of the permanent committees of the Council announced their rejection of the call for a general session by both parties to the dispute, due to the conflict over their legitimacy and the committees’ failure to participate in it and express their opinion on the agenda.

The statement stressed that it was unanimously agreed that the disputed ballot paper was invalid and not valid, due to the clear discrimination that had affected it, as it was the first time in the history of the Council’s elections that it had been written in this manner, and also because the observer of one of the parties did not adhere to it and consider it a blank paper until after the completion of the sorting process.
